But don't forget about your outdoor living space. There are many things you can do to upgrade your swimming pool area to create your own backyard retreat that won't break the bank. A NEW LINER In-ground pools offer many benefits, but if they're poorly maintained they may not last as long as you'd expect. You can retrofit your pool with a new liner or cover the existing steel steps to look like new without having to sink an enormous amount of money into the project. SWITCH TO SALT WATER Perhaps you want to change your traditional water to salt water. This can be achieved with the installation of a specially-designed converter connected to the control unit by simple plug-in cord, and plumbed into the filter pump's return line to the pool. As water is pushed through the cell, an extremely safe low-voltage electrical charge turns the salt previously added to the water into fresh, sanitizing chlorine which is then dispersed evenly throughout the pool via the return jets. TURN UP THE HEAT Many poolowners allow the sun to heat their pool, but if you are interested in extending your swim time then perhaps a heating system is something to consider. There are many options such as heat pumps or solar heating set ups that are very effective for the energy conscious consumer. VARIABLE SPEED PUMPS These are the most important energy-saving innovations in the last few years. With a variable speed pump you are now able to customize your pool to turn over the amount of water necessary yet still have your heater and chlorine generator activate. The end result is not using any more energy than is absolutely necessary. For most pools a variable speed pump will cut operating costs by 80% ! WATER AND LIGHTING FEATURES Water features can be a show stopper and add a focal point to any backyard. And don't forget about lighting. With proper balance of lighting, both in and out of the pool, you can transform your wide open space into a tranquil relaxing nighttime retreat.   [![Free Quote](https://no-cache.hubspot.com/cta/default/247379/6ed908a9-51ac-4855-b798-fd1b4b380d15.png)](https://cta-redirect.hubspot.com/cta/redirect/247379/6ed908a9-51ac-4855-b798-fd1b4b380d15) Tags: [How to get the best value](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/how-to-get-the-best-value), [Putting Modern Technology To Work For You](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/putting-modern-technology-to-work-for-you), [professional pool builders](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/professional-pool-builders), [Water](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/water) ### Subscribe via Email ### Follow Me ### Latest Posts ### Posts by Category - [A HEALTHIER HEART (4)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/a-healthier-heart) - [A MAGICAL VACATION IN YOUR BEACHCOMBER (1)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/a-magical-vacation-in-your-beachcomber) - [ARGUABLY (2)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/arguably) - [ARTHRITIS (1)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/arthritis) - [BACK PAIN (1)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/back-pain) - [Backyard Automation (3)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/backyard-automation) - [BACKYARD ENTERTAINING WITH FLARE (6)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/backyard-entertaining-with-flare) - [Beachcomber Genuine Quality (1)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/beachcomber-genuine-quality) - [Beachcomber's Genuine Quality (2)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/beachcomber39s-genuine-quality) - [Breaking Industry News (4)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/breaking-industry-news) - [Buoyancy (1)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/buoyancy) - [CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH (1)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/cardiovascular-health) - [Chlorine & bromine sanitizers (1)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/chlorine-bromine-sanitizers) - [Comfort and Design (8)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/comfort-and-design) - [Create a little paradise in your own backyard (8)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/create-a-little-paradise-in-your-own-backyard) - [Creating Value with owning a Swimming Pool (1)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/creating-value-with-owning-a-swimming-pool) - [design and custom installation (3)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/design-and-custom-installation) - [design and custom installationKnowing with certain (4)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/design-and-custom-installationknowing-with-certain) - [Ease of Maintainance (6)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/ease-of-maintainance) - [ENTERTAINING (4)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/entertaining) - [Heat (1)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/heat) - [HOBr: Most active (1)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/hobr-most-active) - [HOCI: Most active (1)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/hoci-most-active) - [Hot Tub Benefits experience it for yourself (1)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/hot-tub-benefits-experience-it-for-yourself) - [Hot Tubs (5)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/hot-tubs) - [HOT TUBS CAN TURN YOUR BACKYARD INTO A ROMANTIC (2)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/hot-tubs-can-turn-your-backyard-into-a-romantic) - [How Do I Find A Reputable Pool Contractor?Purchasi (1)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/how-do-i-find-a-reputable-pool-contractorpurchasi) - [How to get the best value (8)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/how-to-get-the-best-value) - [HubSpot Tips (2)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/hubspot-tips) - [Huge Savings on Beachcomber Hot Tubs and Roto Spas (1)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/huge-savings-on-beachcomber-hot-tubs-and-roto-spas) - [Hybrid 3 Feature # 3 (2)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/hybrid-3-feature-3) - [Hybrid 3 Feature #1 (2)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/hybrid-3-feature-1) - [Hybrid 3 Feature #2 (2)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/hybrid-3-feature-2) - [Hydrotherapy (1)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/hydrotherapy) - [IMPROVED FLEXIBILITY (2)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/improved-flexibility) - [IMPROVED SLEEP (1)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/improved-sleep) - [INCREASED MUSCLE TONE & STRENGTH (2)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/increased-muscle-tone-strength) - [Insulation (5)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/insulation) - [Learn top tips and tricks for extending the life o (2)](https://www.rintouls.ca/blog/topic/learn-top-tips-and-tricks-for-extending-the-life-o) - [LIVE BEAUTIFULLY!
